A Message from the Pastor. . .

"Where there is no vision, the people perish." ~ Proverbs 29:18

The Congregation at St. Stephen's Community Church, United Church of Christ, lives by this proverb every day.  Their vision is strong and is guided by Reverend Dr. Michael C. Murphy.  We are a biblically-based church with a vision committed to reaching out to the African American community in an effort to provide spiritual nurturing and community leadership.

The parishioners at St. Stephen's strive to make a difference in the community by providing spiritual, cultural, educational, and social outreach ministries.  The church also has a great deal to offer its congregation of 300.  In addition to Sunday services, Bible Study is held weekly.

Founded in the fall of 1987, St. Stephen's began as an interdenominational church encompassing many varied religious backgrounds.  Our mission is to be scripturally-based, rooted in the African American religious tradition and to play an active role in the community.  In 1990, St. Stephen's became affiliated with the United Church of Christ, a progressive denomination that embraces and celebrates multi-racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

In the fall of 1993, the Congregation moved to its former location at the corner of Oakland and Jenison Avenues.  Its current location since June 2007 is 1007 Kimberly Drive, 15,000 square feet with a state-of-the-art sound system, nursery, classrooms, full kitchen facilities, and a 400-seat sanctuary.  Worship services begin at 10:00 a.m. with Sunday School at 8:30 a.m.

New worshippers are always welcomed!
